The 1990s has seen an increase in onscreen portrayals of previously underrepresented interracial alliances. The black-Latino partners Malik Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo in New York Undercover and the black-Chinese pair Arsenio Hall and Sammo Hung in Martial Law have been illustrating for American TV audiences the possibility of egalitarian relationships so seldom seen in white-colored pairings. Old roles for people of color die hard, however, with the Asian woman-white man fetish still going strong. Miss Saigon and Madame Butterfly continue to feed white male fantasies.
