In our December 2001 issue Men & Women of Color in White Society, we discussed the different degrees of acceptance extended towards men of color and women of color by 'mainstream' America. Mainstream attitudes in turn influence male and female attitudes towards white America, in some instances causing a schism between men and women in communities of color.
For this November issue, we bring to attention to differences in the level of media exposure given to men of color and the level of media exposure given to women of color. Media both shapes and reflects real life, and the 'invisibility' or relative insignificance of certain racial/gender groups in white-male-dominated media is quite apparent.
