Most human cultures have at one point of time considered themselves superior to other cultures. Is it 'natural' that people prefer the familiar to the strange and justify their preferences with chauvinistic "reasoning"?

In this month's issue, we take a look at how people express their notions of cultural superiority in various times and places. We may not have answers but we hope that others will start to ask questions about common assumptions in their communities.
